Volunteer State Community College will be hosting the film “Thank You for Your Service” Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Wood Campus Center in the Mary Cole Nichols Dining Room B. This film is about a soldier who tries to readjust to civilian life after returning home from the war in Iraq, according to Vol State’s website.
According to IMBb, a group of U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq struggle to integrate back into family and civilian life, while living with the memory of a war that threatens to destroy them long after they’ve left the battlefield.
Vol State students weighed in on the importance of students seeing this film.
“I think so, it’s about military, so I think it definitely would make sense for you to go and see and appreciate what people in the military has done for you. I definitely think it’s important to support things that have come out, especially movies about people within the military to see what they have gone through and how it could have changed their lives, changed their families,” said Shelby Weatherbee, a sociology major at Vol State.
Another Vol State student, communication journalism major Harley Keene, said she “definitely thinks it’s important because students can understand the perspective of the veterans. I also think that it’s good that they can meet some other members of the club. I think it’s good that they [students] are involved on campus and that we help the veterans, kind of reacclimate to civilian life.
