Free Hug DayThey will not offer literal hugs to students.

“Pastries and coffee at the 7:45 and 9:15 a.m. spots, chicken nuggets and water at the 11 a.m.  12:20 p.m. spot,” wrote Coordinator of Student Support Tiffany Zwart in an email.

Zwart said that the purpose of this event is to show that Vol State offers a supportive environment for struggling students.

Sophomore Livy Blizzard said she believes this event will positively impact Vol State.

“Some people might think it’s cheesy, but some people might need [staff support]… . Maybe students will meet supportive professors they need,” said Blizzard.

“The whole idea of this event is to encourage our students to see our faculty and staff as a resource. If we can provide an atmosphere of support that encourages our students to ask for help and realize we want them to be successful. I believe this would greatly increase student morale and persistence… .We want [students] to graduate empowered, informed, and mindful of those around them. We can’t teach this just by saying it, we have to show it,” wrote Zwart.
