Do you struggle with keeping up with lectures and trying to take notes? What if I told you that you have access to an amazing app to use in classes that will record your lectures, transcribe them, and let you take notes while recording? I am here to tell you just that.
If you aren’t familiar with the Access Center here at Vol State, they provide accommodations for students with disabilities. All Vol State students now have access to an app called Glean, which is available on all major devices. Over 1,000 students have taken advantage of Glean, that is nearly 20% of all students across VolState campuses.
I sat down with Leslie Smith, manager of the Access Center, to learn more. When talking about students and their reactions to Glean, Smith said the responses from students were “oh my gosh, it’s a game changer for me.”
Using Glean you are able to not only record your lectures, you are able to transcribe the lectures. You are also able to insert important notes of information and mark the time it is being talked about.
Though I have had access to Glean through my semesters at VolState, this is the first semester I have taken advantage of it. It has helped me tremendously in keeping up with those long lectures, and being able to go back later to retrieve information I may have missed, or need to review.
The Glean app can be found in your VolState portal. For more information on the Access Center, you can visit VolState.com/access. If you are interested in applying for services with the Access Center, you can also do all of that online at the link provided.
