Beginning today, Volunteer State Community College will be celebrating National Education Week with a special event that goes through Thursday, Nov. 15.
Director of International Education John Espey said international education week at Vol State began about 10 years ago as the result of the Tennessee Board of Regents including international education in their goals and programs.
“The primary goal is to prepare students for participation in global society,” said Espey.
Monday, Nov. 12, there will be a passport workshop in Mattox Rm. 111 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. If you need a passport or need to renew your passport, join coordinator of international education Anne-Marie Mckee on and apply for a passport.
“I will go through all the necessary steps required for obtaining a passport and address any questions you may have. This event is open to students, staff, and faculty,” said Mckee.
Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the carpeted dining room is “Around the World in a Day”. Students and staff will be displaying items from at least 10 different countries. Dr. Faulkner will have a display from his trip to Africa. There will be an international buffet at noon.
The Brock McGuire Irish Band, featuring four of Ireland’s top musicians, will be performing Wednesday 7 p.m. at Caudill Hall and Thursday 3 p.m. at Cookeville Higher Education Center, Cody Hall.
Both performances are free and open to the public.

Thursday, Nov. 15, the Vanderbilt Humphrey Fellows will be in the Rochelle Room from 10 a.m. to noon to discuss their countries and answer Student questions. The Fellows bring a diversity of professional experiences in a wide range of contexts.
