The life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the lives of those killed in mass shootings over the past several years will be commemorated at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, in Caudill Auditorium.
The ceremony will begin with an address by Volunteer State Community College President, Dr. Jerry Faulkner followed by a video in remembrance of those who have died in mass shootings. A candlelight vigil and moment of silence will take place before a showing of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech.
“I strongly encourage everyone who can attend to be a part of this important commemoration of the life of a man who changed the course of world history,” said Faulkner in an email sent to Volunteer State students and faculty.
“Since we are closed on that day, I wanted to do something to commemorate not just Dr. King, but also to remember the folks who have lost loved ones in these mass shootings,” said Jeff King, manager of Diversity and Inclusion, “and with Dr. King being a non-violent leader and a man of peace, it seemed appropriate.”
Students who have completed the postcard from Student Engagement can pick up a free hoodie in the Office of Student Services commemorating Wednesday’s event.
