Volunteer State Community College Student Veteran Association (VSVA) will be hosting a Veterans Forum Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mary Cole Nichols Dining Room A, according to Vol State’s Facebook page.
“The Veterans Forum is an event to give outsiders a look at what military life and transition is like,” said Vol State Veterans Club President, Allison Summers, who served three years in the United States Marine Corps before being medically discharged.

The Volunteer State Community College Rendered Invisible event, where Vanderbilt University Dr. Frank E. Dobson, Jr., will talk about his book, “Rendered Invisible: Stories of Blacks and Whites, Love and Death,” is on Feb. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the Wood Campus Center.
This event is hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion for Black History Month.
Vol State Office of Diversity and Inclusion administrative assistant Lori Miller says Dobson spoke at Vol State before, but this event will mainly focus on discussing his book.

Every year, several Vol State ophthalmic students are chosen to partake in a mission trip to Guatemala, where they have the opportunity to serve people in need with their knowledge and talents.
In an email from Vol State Ophthalmic Technician Program Director Alisha Cornish, the Cub Scouts Webelos 2 Den from Pack 407 collected between 200 and 300 pairs of glasses for the Volunteer State Community College ophthalmic technician department’s upcoming mission trip to Guatemala. The Webelos Scouts have been working on a project to help the ophthalmic department prepare for the trip.

Volunteer State Community College will not celebrate homecoming this year because, “nobody gets into it. We have a lot of lack of school support,” said Coordinator of Student Activities, Tabitha Sherrell. “ Our athletes don’t get into it. No one shows up for the games.”
While there will be no formal homecoming, the Pioneers last home appearance, a home double header in which both the men and women will play Dyersburg State beginning at 2 p.m., Feb. 16, in Pickel Fieldhouse, will feature some special attractions.

Already reeling from the loss of four players who were ruled academically ineligible over Christmas, the Volunteer State Community College Men’s basketball team now must deal with two players who have left the team.
Sophomore Kevin Rimmer, a starter, and freshman Jayson Brown are no longer with the Pioneers. Rimmer missed four games with an injury to his throat and has elected not to return. Brown left for personal reasons.
