Volunteer State Community College’s Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting a student forum event Tuesday, Nov 9. Vol State’s president, Dr. Orinthia Montague, and members from her cabinet will be answering questions submitted by the student body.

According to the Vol State website,  “The Student Government Association (SGA) was established to be an avenue through which student interests and needs may be expressed. It provides students the opportunity to work with college administration officers in matters affecting the welfare of the student body. The SGA works with all student organizations to maintain and improve the quality of student life both on and off campus.”

According to the Campus Events page, The event will be a Zoom call and an opportunity for students to use their voices by asking questions to Montague. Students will also learn more about what Montague has planned during her time at Vol State.

This event will start at 11:15 a.m. and last until 12:15 p.m. Students can find the Zoom meeting ID on the event page and the password to the meeting through an email that will be sent to students.

SGA vice president, Debera Bennett, said that it is important that the student body get involved with this event because this is Montegue’s first year as president at Vol State.

“[Montague] is our president and it is imperative we show up for her success as president and for a fruitful college experience for us. How can she know what students need and want if we do not use our voice?” said Bennett.

“The SGA/Presidential Forum is such an important event as it allows the Student Body to have a say and get answers to the most critical questions asked to the College of the President, bringing everyone closer together,” said SGA President Hevgir Tayip.

Students will receive an email with more information about the student forum and directions for submitting their questions to SGA. Those with questions may contact the event coordinator and SGA advisor, Tabitha Sherrell, using her email
