The highly anticipated sequel to the massively successful 2021 Marvel film Spider-Man: No Way Home is finally beginning to take shape.
The film’s director’s chair is set to be filled by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed the 2021 Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This comes as a result of a decision by Jon Watts, who directed the previous three Spider-Man films, to step away from the superhero genre. Watts was also previously set to direct the upcoming Marvel film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will instead be directed by Matt Shakman.
Tom Holland and Zendaya are set to reprise their roles as Peter Parker and MJ, respectively. It is unknown as to whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their roles from No Way Home as alternate versions of Spider-Man, though Garfield has denied having any involvement. Garfield had also previously denied appearing in No Way Home. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will return from previous films as screenwriters, as well as Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal as producers.
Production is planned to commence in early 2025. The film will be produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and released by Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia banner, likely in 2026 or 2027.
