Explore the Resources Available at Thigpen

Volunteer Community College’s Thigpen Library has many available resources.

“They’re all on the website, where you should always start as a student to find them,” said Vol State’s Director of Library Services and Provider of Research assistant Sarah Smith.

“We have about 45,000 books in our print collection and they represent all disciplines, but we also have electronic resources that provide the bulk of resources for students’ academic research needs. We have millions of articles and more than 300,000 e-books, so it’s a lot more robust in our online collection in terms of what we have to offer, especially for the students who might be at a distance from the main campus in Gallatin,” said Smith.

Be Prepared for the Flu

By Katelyn Marshall

The flu season is in full swing and that means people need to be prepared.

“The flu is a type of influenza that impacts everyone around the country every year,” Dr. George Pimentel, Vice President of Academic Affairs, said. “There are multiple strands of the flu. So, what might get you sick this year may not be what gets you sick next year.”

Some symptoms of the flu, according to Pimentel, include headaches, fever, and will sometimes accompany nose congestion and a cough.

The flu is air-borne by droplets said Dr. Maria Benitez-Brauer, also known as “Dr. B,” who has 20 years of pediatric experience and is a pediatrician at Sumner Pediatrics in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
