Vol State launches new RN program

Volunteer State Community College has announced the launch of a new RN (registered nurse) Nursing Degree program.

The program will award an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing and prepare students to apply to sit for licensure as a Registered Nurse. It will be available at the Gallatin and Livingston campuses.

Applications for the RN program will become available March 1. The deadline to turn in the application is May 1. The first cohort will start on June 10.
The RN program will be limited in the number of students accepted, 24 for the Gallatin campus and 24 for the Livingston campus each year.

Students host Dr. Seuss book drive

National Read Across America Day and Dr. Suess share a birthday, March 2.

The Future Educators Club of Volunteer State Community College is having a book drive to provide books to low-income children at local schools who may not be able to otherwise obtain them.
The Future Educators Club is a group of students, at Vol State, mostly made up of education majors who are interested in education.

The hygiene drive, welcome week and fall festival/spring flings are other events hosted by the Future Educators Club.

The Art of Omari Booker is on display at Vol State

February is Black History Month and during Unity Week at Volunteer State Community College, “Red Line” will be displayed in the Wood Campus Center in the International Hall and Suite 217 until Feb. 15.

Barbwire, oil paints and panel are elements within “Red Line: The Art of Omari Booker.”

A Nashville native, local artist Omari Booker grew up in Tennessee.

Vol State has a new Humanities Dean

The Division of Humanities at Volunteer State Community College has a new dean this semester, Dr. Tonya Daniels.

In October 2018, former Dean Jennifer Brezina stepped down to assume the role of Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.

During the transition period, faculty and staff put forth a helping hand to efficiently maintain the position.
