Volunteer State Community College will be hosting a Spring Showcase of music and theater students on Fri. April 29 and Sat. April 30 from 7:30 -9:30pm.
The showcase will be featuring performances by Bluegrass Ablaze led by Professor Mark Barnett, Vol State Jazz led by Professor Benjamin Graves, a theatre monologue directed by Professor Edmon Thomas, select solos from music students such as Chloe Duval and Kathryn Hoxie, select piano performances from the studio of Dr. Nicholas Reynolds, and singer songwriters from the campus community.
The Spring Showcase will be free and open to the public and it will take place in Caudill Hall inside the Wemyss Auditorium room. There is currently no order of performances
Professor Benjamin Graves, the Associate Professor of Music at Vol State and the person responsible for organizing the showcase, said that “The Spring Showcase will highlight the diverse array of talent represented by the Music and Theatre (Performing Arts) departments, as well as some students from Music Production”
Professor Graves also stated that “Some of Vol State’s wonderfully talented singer/songwriters, including Chloe Duvall, will be showcased performing their original material.”
Also showcasing original material with Chloe Duvall will be Kathryn Hoxie.
“The goal of the showcase is to highlight our students from all across the music department- all the different programs and genres of music. Anything from choir to bluegrass!” said Len Assante, a Communication Studies Faculty and Assistant Dean for the Division of Humanities.
“The event really focuses on the music and the students – not a lot of props and so on, just the students, their voices and instruments.” said Assante.
Assante wants to encourage people to come out and support the wide array of talent that is being displayed at the Spring Showcase.
“I’d say that it’s a pretty eclectic event,” said Assante “We want to fill the auditorium.”
