The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs at Volunteer State Community College will be hosting a virtual presentation celebrating veterans.

Veterans that attend VSCC that would like to participate in the presentation must email a photo of themselves in uniform and include their name, rank and branch of service to the Office of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs at veterans.affairs@volstate.edu.

“Veterans can also send a short video clip and tell us either why you chose your branch of service or let us know if there is anything you wish that civilians understood about military service. If you are a family member of a veteran and would like to have your veteran included in the virtual presentation, please email a photo of your veteran, in uniform if possible, along with their name, rank and branch of service. Make sure you also let us know their relationship to you (parent, spouse, child…),” according to an email sent to students by Tiffany Zwart, Coordinator of Student Support.

“There are over 120 veterans taking classes this semester at Vol State. Our office suite also serves as the Vet Center where veteran students can come to study, work on assignments, or use a computer,” said Penny Starr, veteran affairs associate.

“The Office of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs (ALVA) is honored to be able to serve students who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces and their dependents. ALVA has the responsibility for certifying students who are eligible for VA benefits in order for them to receive those benefits and provide information about military training credits. The mission of the Vol State Student Veterans of America student club is to provide military veterans with the resources, support and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation. The VSVA has been active at Vol State since 2012 and is now at the Gallatin and Cookeville campuses. Students from any campus may participate,” according to the Vol State website.

The presentation is scheduled for Nov. 10 at 12:30 p.m.

For students who have questions about the presentation, please contact the Office of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs at 615-230-3444.
