The “Pack the Pickel” PINKOUT event will be raising donations for the FEED, and awareness of cancer in the Pickel Field House on Wednesday, March 1.
The event will hold both a men’s and women’s basketball game to promote donations for the FEED, Vol State’s very own food pantry, as well as promoting Cancer Awareness Month.
According to Vol State’s Campus Events Calendar, the women’s game will be at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. in the Pickel Field House Gym.
The PINKOUT event encourages all students and other participants to wear pink for Cancer Awareness Month.
Food donations are also requested by the FEED. For each donation per student, a ticket will be entered for a drawing. Prizes will be awarded during the half-time of both games.
According to the event flyer, prizes include gift cards, Air Pods and more. Free T-shirts, rally towels and ice cream from the Pink Truck will also be provided, while supplies last.
“Food items needed: mac-n-cheese, canned veggies/fruits, peanut butter, jelly, and canned tuna/chicken,” said Tabitha Sherrell, Coordinator of Student Activities.
“It’s encouraged students attend to watch both men’s and women’s basketball teams. Being this is a new era of basketball coming to Volunteer State in the coming years for athletics. Also, who doesn’t want to have a chance to win free Air Pods,” said Kaden Paul, a player on the men’s basketball team.
This game will also be important for the basketball season as well, “We all feel confident about this game since we have so many supporters coming. Hopefully in the future those same supporters will spread the word and we will have more attending the games next year,” said Paul.
