VSCC Learning Commons Goes Virtual

The Volunteer State Community College learning commons hosted a Zoom initiative March 8-12 to bring Live Tutoring online.

 “The Learning Commons is an integral part of student success, and we knew that we had to adapt our approach of traditional face-to-face tutoring to an online method of providing the same level of service that our students have come to expect,” said Coordinator of the Office of Learning Commons, Delois Reagan,

According to Reagan, prior to Covid-19, tutoring was not available online through the Learning Commons. This is a new initiative in response to Covid-19.

“Students can get the academic help they need to improve their grades in math and science and to get assistance with writing papers and speeches.  However, the Learning Commons is more than that.  It is a community of support that fosters student success and provides an environment for learning.  We also strive to meet each student right where they are academically.   Everyone needs helps at some point in their academic career, and the Learning Commons is here to provide that help,” said Reagan.

According to Reagan, “the learning commons vary depending on the campus. The schedule is listed on the website.  This schedule does vary by campus, and students are encouraged to contact the respective campus for information on the schedule.”

Listed below are the locations and hours for some of the campuses learning commons.

GALLATIN CAMPUS

Location: Thigpen Building – 1st Floor

Fall and Spring Semester Hours

• On Campus Hours (for computer/printer use only)
  • Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Online tutoring through Zoom
  • Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Intersession Hours (between each semester)

• Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Summer 2020 Semester Hours

• Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.  
• Friday: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Saturday: Closed
