Volunteer State Community College’s Student Government Association hosted their Halloween Bash Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Thigpen Library and Plaza.
“The Halloween bash had a lot of fun events and stations for people to enjoy. There was glow-in-the-dark mini golf throughout the Thigpen Library, a mocktail station, a showing of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, and a costume contest, which was the best part. Everyone had a great time and it was so nice to see people enjoying in-person events again!” said Skylar Latham, Campus Activities Board chairperson for the Student Government Association.
Mocktails included a “Blood Sacrifice” which was a fruit punch with red Twizzlers and gummy Lifesavers. There was also a hot chocolate station and food from the Vol State Grill. Bags of candy were given out, with care to separate the candy with nuts from non-nut candy in an effort to be inclusive for students with peanut allergies.
Everyone who attended could take home a Vol State planner and had the opportunity to win other prizes through the costume contest. T-shirts and sweatshirts were awarded to the first, second and third place winners. The results were:
1st Place- Cierra Sanderson (Princess Peach)
2nd Place- Emma Trafelet (Beetlejuice)
3rd Place- Amber Jones (Witch)
“I liked how inclusive the costume contest was, and the food was really good as well. It was overall a really great time,” said student Kyra Siciliano, who dressed as Marvel’s Black Widow for the costume contest.
“We had a little over 60 people attend. Students enjoyed the SGA stations, as well as the glow golf in the library. Overall, it was a successful event and could be expanded in the future. Thank you to the library staff for collaborating and allowing us to use the library space. Also, thank you to SGA and CAB for helping to plan and attend the event,” said Sherrell.
