Volunteer State Community College’s baseball team faced off against Parkland College in a cold and windy double header Monday, Feb. 25.
In a tight first game, the Pioneers were able to hold off Parkland for a 4-3 win.
“Pitching was very effective- that’s what got us the win,” said assistant coach Jason Barrett. “They came out and competed. They have the talent, it’s there. If they just play hard and compete like they did in game one, it’ll pay off.”

The Volunteer State radio, WVCP, will be holding an open house to celebrate its 40th anniversary on 88.5 FM on March 16, in the Ramer building from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Former students, disk jockeys and community members are welcome to attend the open house and partake in lunch that will be served at noon.
According to the Vol State website, WVCP took to the airwaves on January 4, 1979.

The Future Educators Club at Volunteer State Community College is accepting children’s book donations now until Tuesday, March 12, at 2 p.m.
Books can be donated by being placed in marked boxes in Caudill Hall and Ramer Hall.
All books will be donated to local preschools and daycares, according to Vol State’s website.
“The Future Educators book drive is a way for the club to become active on campus while collecting items for the community,” said early childhood education faculty Stacy Nieman.

After a play-in win over Dyersburg State Community College, the Volunteer State Community College Lady Pioneers were dropped from the TCCAA Division Region VII conference tournament with a 58-47 loss to the Walters State Community College Senators.
The games played on March 1 and 2, at Cleveland State Community College, ended the Pioneers’ season with a 5-11 conference record. They were 11-14 overall.
In the play-in game win, four Vol State players scored in double figures. Shayala Armstead led the Pioneers’ scoring with 19 points. Aliyah Miller scored 18 points and Tatiyana Lavender scored 15. Xavia Williams added another 11 points to round out the Pioneers’ double figure scorers.

Despite 45 points from freshman guards Tim Goodrich and Justin Goodson of the Volunteer State Community College Pioneers were bounced from the TCCAA Division Region VII conference tournament 83-85 by the Roane State Community College Raiders.
The game on March 1, at Cleveland State Community College, saw only one other Pioneer score in double figures, sophomore guard Jaden Chumley. Goodson scored 29 points, Goodrich 26 and Chumley scored 11 points.
