Vol State Welcomes the Semester with a Luau

By: Ana Maria Salazar

Aloha! Volunteer States Gallatin campus’s very first Hawaiian Welcome Luau takes place at all campus locations on Tuesday, Aug. 29.  The event is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. outside at the Thigpen Plaza.

Faculty and staff, including a representative from the President’s Cabinet, will be present to welcome all students who attend.

According to Tabitha Sherrell, Coordinator of Student Activities, there will be games and activities including tie-dying t-shirts and an ugly Hawaiian shirt contest.

Students are encouraged to wear their ugliest Hawaiian shirt for a chance to win a prize. The ugliest Hawaiian shirt will win a $50 book-store gift card, this goes for both students and faculty/staff!

There will also be club sign-ups and campus resource tables to help students get acclimated to all the help and resources available for a successful semester.

In addition, there will also be free things available to students, such as oversized cups with the Vol State logo.

“This event is meant to be fun and inviting to students. We want students to feel welcome on the campus, make friends, and have fun,” shared Tabitha Sherrell.

Triana Earls-Cuozzo, a member of the library staff, has a specific thing she is looking forward to… “Dude, I’m all about the free food! And you can quote me on that! I’m all about the free food!”

All you need to do in order to join in all the fun festivities is bring yourself down!
