Volunteer State Community College’s women’s basketball team, “The Lady Pioneers,” will be playing its first game against Vincennes University in the Gallatin campus Pickel Fieldhouse Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 5 p.m.

There are 10 members on the team of which two made it this year during tryouts. The team practices during the week and occasionally on Saturdays.

Theotis Key, head coach, said there was “tremendous sophomore talent, and the freshmen got to experience that” during tryouts.

“I am comfortable where we are, going into the game against Vincennes. It is always a tough game. They are always nationally ranked, so it will be a good test for us,” said Key.

Snowden Scott, a shooting guard for the Lady Pioneers, said she is “ready and excited for the start of the season.”

Scott also said she believes every single player on the team gives 110 percent. And that they are going to “come out strong on the 12th.”

The first fall season game occurs Tuesday at Vol State. Those who cannot make it to the first game can attend the next home game against the University of Tennesse Southern Friday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. The final game of this month will be away occurring Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m.

The remaining games scheduled to occur this fall can be found on the Vol State Athletics website.
