Volunteer State Community College is partnering with Amazon to provide hourly employees full tuition through Amazon’s Career Choice program.

Amazon’s Career Choice program will be giving hourly Amazon employees access to two-year degrees at all Vol State campuses as well as certificates and pathways to university transfer.

This gives Vol State students/Amazon employees the capability and flexibility to purse the career of their choice while doing both work and school at no cost.

Hourly employees are allowed to start in the Career Choice program 90 days after staring at Amazon. They will have access to annual funds toward education after the 90 days and will continue to receive those funds as long as they remain employed through Amazon and are furthering their education.

While no Vol State students are currently enrolled into this program, as it was just announced that Vol State was partnering with Amazon last week, enrollment should open later this spring for fall instruction.

According to aboutamazon.com “Amazon believes all employees should have the opportunity to learn new skills and build their careers.”

The education benefits that the Career Choice program offers, according to aboutamazon.com, include

  • Funding for college tuition
  • Pre-paid fees
  • Limitless learning
  • Fast starts

According to the Tennessee Board of Regents, Amazon and partnering technical colleges, such as Vol State, are looking to “certify 5,000 Tennesseans in could computing by 2025.”

Tami Wallace, Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Vol State, says that Amazon partnering with Vol State is “critical because it ensures that students will be trained for actual industry needs and by trained instructors skilled in teaching the latest technical skills that will help learners earn industry certifications.”
