Volunteer State Community College’s Fit Club will be hosting bi-weekly Zoom meetings from March 23 to April 6 on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
“Jeanne Baker, the club president, will be directing and be the consistent host for each meeting. As the faculty advisor for the club, I will be in attendance for most meetings,” said the Fit Club advisor, Justin McKinney.
“During the meetings, information is given to the club members about what is going on around campus and what activities we would like to host,” said McKinney.
While the event is a club meeting according to the event post on the Vol State website, nonmember students can attend as well.
“The best thing to do is to join a Zoom meeting and see what we are about,” said McKinney. “Students should attend so they can learn about things they didn’t know and keep the club active.”
Meetings can also feature “guests from UT Extension and others to discuss health related topics,” said McKinney.
According to the Fit Club ad in the Vol State website, the Fit Club provides information regarding health and encourages students to care for their health.
“Fit club is about physical wellness, but getting support from other students in the same situations helps with accountability and brings about positive mental health as well,” said McKinney.
According to McKinney’s description, the club aligns with the goal the president had in mind when creating the organization.
“Jeanne wanted to form a club where all students are welcome and could find a workout buddy to help hold them accountable for going to the gym or making better food choices,” McKinney said.
McKinney also acknowledged the restraint the pandemic has put on the club’s meetings.
“Covid has limited the things we can do together like many other clubs, but we do our best to be creative in volunteer opportunities and activities,” the advisor said, “as we continue to move out of the pandemic, more opportunities will become available,” said McKinney
The next meeting will be held virtually in the Zoom call Tuesday, March 23. and will last from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Refer to the event post for additional dates and the Zoom ID number.
“You are not alone in the pursuit of health and wellness. Come and be a part of a community that you can make like-minded contacts and get the support to help you be successful,” said McKinney.
Students can prepare for the next meeting by being “ready to listen and ask questions. The only equipment needed is a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone they can Zoom on,” said McKinney.
Those interested in learning more about these meetings, or The Fit Club in general, should visit the event post or contact Justin McKinney by email.
