Volunteer State Community College is hosting a Zoom session Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to assist current and future students with their FASFA application.

According to the Vol State website, “financial aid refers to funding intended to help students pay expenses related to their education. Sources may be from grants, scholarships, loans and work-study programs from federal, state, institutional and private sources. Financial aid from these programs may be combined in an “award package” to meet or defray from the cost of education,”

Students who need assistance organizing their expenses or navigating their FASFA can attend the Zoom session by emailing Financial Aid for more information.

“The deadlines for FAFSA forms to be turned in have been extended this year. The deadline is now March 1 for Tennessee Promise students and May 15 for Tennessee Reconnect students,” said Coordinator of Public Relations and Marketing Public Relations, Eric Melcher.

“The session is specifically to provide help in filling out the FASFA. But any students seeking financial aid can attend,” said Melcher.

“The topics discussed will simply be going over FASFA and assistance with how to complete the application. This will simply be a push to get students to complete the FASFA as there are multiple deadlines for state programs,” said Financial Aid Director, Donna Dunaway.

“There haven’t been any changes to the FASFA/Vol State application process as the application has been web based for years now. It has changed how we conduct the workshops in that we used to set something up in person and visit local high schools. Now workshops are set up mostly by Zoom. Any student who cannot attend can contact the Financial Aid office at financial.aid@volstate.edu and we will be happy to set up a one-on-one Zoom appointment or if they are more comfortable with in person, we will still have staff in the office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Everyone must still complete the screening tool to enter the building and wear a face covering at all times,” said Dunaway.

In addition to the Zoom call, step by step information about the FASFA process can also be accessed on the Vol State website.
