Vol State Community College is hosting a Women Empowering Education Luncheon on Friday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This luncheon will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville Tennessee. The doors open for registration and lunch at 11 a.m. and the program will follow at 11:45 a.m.
This is the 17th annual fundraising event. This event is made up of sponsors, donors, and guests who come together to support Vol State students through investing in Vol State College Foundation’s scholarships.
“This annual event includes lunch prepared by Chef Christopher’s Catering followed by past scholarship recipients sharing their testimony on the impact the Vol State College Foundation scholarship has made in their journey to receiving a college degree,” said Alison Webster, a development officer.
There will be a special guest speaker, Lisa Smartt, a motivational speaker.
“Lisa is a woman who loves to laugh. She’s written several books and travels around the country speaking about the joys and difficulties of people’s business. She’s made a lot of mistakes and uses the lessons learned to encourage others,” said Webster.
“She travels nationally as a motivational humorist and writes a weekly newspaper column called, ‘The Smartt View,” said lisasmartt.com.
Since the inaugural event in 2008, the Women Empowering Education luncheon has awarded more than $434,000 in scholarships. This scholarship is made possible through donations by businesses, individuals, and community groups.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, 17 Women Empowering Education scholarships award to Volunteer State Community College students.
“We are excited to share this year’s Title Sponsors are Highpoint Health Sumner with Ascension State Thomas’ Meta, and the National Association of Small Trucking Companies (NASTC). We are anticipating more than 400 guests for this year’s fundraising event,” said Webster.
