Volunteer State adds a new volleyball and soccer club to its athletics program.

Volunteer State Community College (Vol State) adds soccer and women’s volleyball to its athletic program lineup. They plan to kick off the first season in the 2026-2027 school year. This is a great opportunity for students to further their athletic careers and enhance their education. Not only is this amazing for the students attending or planning to attend, it’s also great for the school itself because it brings in more exposure and opportunities for the school.

Although they are not put into action until next school year, they have already started the recruiting process. They have also started hiring coaches and trainers who benefit the departments to the best abilities. Vol State’s main goal is to make sure each individual student succeeds in any way they can.  They are especially thinking of everything by hiring a full-time athletic director to look over everything, and also student athletes who can bridge the gap between students and the higher positions.

I got the opportunity to speak to Volunteer State’s first All-American in the basketball department and get his thoughts on Volunteer State expanding its athletic department. Jaraun Kino Burrows, who won the Championship in 2004-2005, stated, “It is awesome that Volunteer State Community College has chosen to expand its athletic department. For me, Vol State was a positive campus with amazing resources for student athletes previously, so I expect the day opportunities for the Soccer and Women’s Volleyball departments. Vol State helped me make my career what it is today, and without the opportunities and selflessness of the school, there is no telling who I would’ve become.” Jaraun then continues how “he hopes the future athletes of Vol state take their opportunities and understand that you knew know who is watching, so do your best, try hard, and have fun.” Jaraun Burrows is now a Pro A professional basketball player who has played in some of the most sought-after countries. He is now a vital player of the national Bahamas team and has competed in five World Cup qualifiers and one FIBA AmeriCup. He is a perfect role model to show students how opportunities and support can bring you from one extreme of lifestyle to the complete opposite.

Including the new departments of women’s volleyball and soccer, Vol State also offers men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, and hopes to advance its department even further in the near future.
